Jason McCarty, M.A.

Jason McCarty Jason grew up outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and spent most of his childhood and adult years there. He moved to British Columbia 5 years ago after marrying his wife Kristi who is from Kelowna. Jason and his wife met traveling around Ireland and then stayed in touch over email for 3 years before meeting up again and eventually getting married. They have a 3-year-old daughter Jamison and a month-old son Finlay. Jason received his Masters Degree in Psychology with a Specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy from Saybrook Graduate School in San Francisco, California. He received a Bachelor's degree in Humanities with a Philosophy concentration. Jason is currently the Program Coordinator of an addiction treatment center where he manages the residential treatment programs for men and women as well as conducts individual psychotherapy. Prior to his management position, Jason was a group therapist in the residential program. Jason has attended workshops on motivational interviewing, neurobiology of substance abuse, concurrent disorders, leadership, and mental health. Before getting into the counselling field, Jason coached soccer both at the university and high school levels. He was a long time athlete and played competitive soccer at the university level. He now attempts to run around as best he can in the Kelowna Men's League. Jason's main interest in psychotherapy, counseling, and coaching is how people "experience" themselves. Jason's focus in therapy is to help his clients experience themselves more fully. When we learn to experience our inner worlds we can move toward self-acceptance and understanding. Self-acceptance is a somewhat ambiguous term and it is this very thing that motivates Jason to continue learning. We must accept our reality and our selves before we can change either. Jason believes in helping others to reach their true potential by working to remove the obstacles and barriers in front of them. Jason is excited to be a part of the OHP team. He believes in integration of healthcare and believes in treating the whole person. The combination of psychotherapy and other OHP services could be exactly what a person or family need.
