Joint pain, such as in your knee, shoulder, ankle or wrist, can arise from a back or neck problem or can be completely independent. Common symptoms include an ache or sharp pain in one of your joints when in particular positions, stiffness in a joint after rest or when using the joint, as well as aching and tiredness in the area surrounding the joint.

Whatever the nature or cause of your joint condition, we can help you by resolving pain and improving your range of movement. Your initial assessment will be carried out by one of our qualified OHP Kelowna chiropractors, who will conduct a thorough physical examination and gain a confidential understanding of your full medical history.

This allows us to assess your state of health and any possible causes of your joint pain. This examination may be complemented with an on-site X-ray examination, if deemed necessary.

OHP Kelowna chiropractors, osteopaths and physiotherapists have an in-depth knowledge of these areas and are the best equipped professionals to diagnose, treat and manage all non-surgical issues associated with the joints.

Depending on your diagnosis, your OHP Kelowna chiropractor will then mobilise your joints, work on your muscles and manipulate the spine and other joints in a precise yet gentle way to improve movement, relieve pain and reduce nerve irritation and muscle spasms.

So What’s Causing Your Joint Pain?

The muscles, tendons, joints and ligaments are parts of your anatomy that are often involved in generating joint pain, but the list is not exclusive and your pain may result from a combination of factors. Once we know what is giving rise to your pain and how the anatomical structure in question has been injured, an appropriate care plan will be laid out for you.

Ankle Pain

Ankle pain is especially prevalent among runners as it takes a constant pounding. A common cause of these injuries is fallen arches or flat feet that cause the ankle to undergo more intense strain. Elbow pain is another common experience and can be caused by sports or even an accidental fall. A common elbow injury is called tennis elbow and is caused by inflammation of soft tissue.

OHP Kelowna chiropractors can help relieve this type of pain and correct the issue that is causing it. After thoroughly examining the problem, we will determine the appropriate solution and explain what we can do for you. Call us today if you think you may be suffering from elbow, knee or ankle pain.

Knee Pain

Knee pain can be due to a trauma or can result from compensatory stress from joints above or below. If you have injured your knee playing sports, twisting, or just working around the house chances are you’ve strained/sprained one of the muscles or ligaments surrounding the knee. There are many ways to treat this type of injury including the soft tissue technique Active Release (ART®), done by OHP Kelowna chiropractors.

If there is no specific trauma associated with your knee pain and it started gradually, it is more likely due as a result to strain placed on the knee due to dysfunction in either the hip and pelvis or the foot and ankle. A full assessment of all these joints is important to localize where the problem is coming from so it can be treated appropriately.

Specific rehabilitation programs also play a key role in resolving knee complaints. Programs can be designed to re-train and strengthen the knee after such things as patello-femoral pain syndrome (runners knee), ACL/MCL(ligamentous) sprains and IT Band syndrome. With conditions such as Osteoarthritis affecting the knee joint, treatment can greatly reduce pain and improve functionality in a joint that is stiff and sore.
